Ever since last month’s tornadoes many residents have been dialing 211.
It’s a phone line similar to 911 for questions related to health and human services.
It was implemented in Illinois in June and has proven to be very useful after last month’s storms.
211 can be used for a wide variety of reasons.
"Specifically, health and human care programs and services. As I mentioned, whether it be utility assistance or rent assistance, or food, shelter, counseling ect,” said
Michael Stephan of the HOI United Way.
211 is available 24/7 and is staffed with AMT workers.
