District 150 Community Comes Together for 5K

Second annual dash
PEORIA - With the nice fall weather Sunday afternoon, members of the community came out to Peoria’s riverfront for the second annual District 150 Dash.

There were no registration fees because the goal was to get people moving. Some ran the 5K distance, but others chose just to do a mile or two.

Organizers said it’s a great event to bring the community together without the competition.
"It's kind of nice to take the pressure off and say hey, let’s just go out and have fun. Some people can walk, some people can walk jog, some peole can run," said Michael Lewellyn, the key person in organizing the dash.

"It's an opportunity for us to get active and get moving. All of us need to work on physical fitness and I thought this would be a fun way just to get people involved," said District 150 Superintendent, Dr. Grenita Lathan.

About 200 people participated in the dash.
