Donors Come out to Red Cross "12 Hours of Giving" Blood Drive

EAST PEORIA - The annual blood drive brought out around 500 people.
EAST PEORIA - The Red Cross's annual "12 Hours of Giving" blood drive took place all Monday.

The event ran from 7 AM to 7 PM, bringing in about 500 people.

The Red Cross says it always is in need of blood donations, but especially around the holidays.

Often the regular donors get busy with seasonal activities - but there are still a lot of people depending on the donations.

"Being a Peoria fireman, it has reinforced why I give blood, " said donor, and firefighter, Ron Hawotte. "I, unfortunately, see people on the tragic side of these accidents."

"That can be given to a variety of patients, cancer patients, trauma victims, surgery patients, organ transplant patients, so it's really a great way to make a difference this holiday season," added Ben Corey.

If you missed today's blood drive, you can always call the Red Cross at 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) to schedule an appointment.

Or you can make that appointment online at redcrossblood.org.
