CENTRAL ILLINOIS - The Edwards Coal Plant near Bartonville is getting more time to install controls for pollution.
The Illinois Pollution Board voted Thursday, granting Dynegy a five year delay for installing soot control upgrades on five of its coal powered plants in the state.
The Texas company hopes to acquire the plants from Ameren corporation.
The deal hinged on the extension.
Environmental groups, like the Sierra Club say public health is at risk.
Some have filed formal objections to the company's request.
