Employers Encouraged to Form Gun Policy

Local attorney's led a discussion for employers Thursday to discuss firearms in the workplace.
PEORIA – Local attorney's led a discussion for employers Thursday to discuss firearms in the workplace.

The concealed carry statute passed on July 2nd and the legislature is still crafting the gun law. While guns won’t be allowed in places like schools and hospitals, the lawyers say other businesses should implement protocol now to stay ahead of the game.

"They need to sit down as an organization and figure out, do we want to allow handguns in our premises or do we not. And make sure they realize what their options are and make sure they also put together a policy before the permits are getting issued and they start having to deal with it first hand," said Attorney Rick Russo.

All businesses that want to ban handguns on the premises have to hang up a state police-issued sign.
