Extrava-Can-za: IWU Students Show Off Building Skills

BLOOMINGTON - Students at Illinois Wesleyan got a little “extravacant” Thursday afternoon.

Titan students have been collecting canned goods throughout the fall semester, and on Thursday, they got to use those for a different purpose: to build structures.

Each structure used cans and boxes, as students worked to make a design that expressed "class" the theme of homecoming this year.

While some students struggled to get their towers to stay up, but all were excited about this battle of creativity.

"We actually tried to get a lot of yellow and green cans, so that we could get some color in, and then we used the blue as the straps. Then, we ended up using our most our cans actually to just support the structure,” said Becca Yarnot, a junior at Illinois Wesleyan.

In case you're wondering, the biggest tower featured nearly 300 cans. After the contest, the cans and boxes are being taken to a local food pantry.
