Family Friend Remembers Officer Kohlmeier

A family friend remembers the young officer, killed Wednesday evening.
PONTIAC – Hundreds of people are remembering Pontiac Police Officer Casey Kohlmeier and his patrol dog, Draco.

The 29-year-old officer was laid to rest Saturday in his hometown of Pontiac.

Hundreds of people filed in and out of Pontiac Township High School to pay their respects to his family and friends.

The K-9 Unit Officer and police dog were killed Wednesday evening after being hit by an alleged drunk driver.

The two were on duty, parked in a median off Interstate 55 near Pontiac.

A close family friend said the officer was a unique young man, whose future was as bright as his smile.

Jane Wiebers said, “He was just very.... very selfless and cared about others. Always put others first.”

She said he died doing the job he loved very much and it was a blessing that he was with his beloved K-9, Draco, until the end.
