WMBD/WYZZ-TV - PEORIA, Ill. -- Andy Benes never played Class A baseball.
But he wishes he could've played at Dozer Park. Benes, the number 1 overall pick in the 1988 Baseball Entry Draft, signed autographs as a guest of the Peoria Chiefs Thursday.
"This is a great facility," Benes said of the home of the Class A Cardinals' Midwest League affiliate. "The ballparks have changed since I was coming up, for sure."
Benes played college baseball at Evansville before the Aces joioned the Missouri Valley Conference. So he missed out on a chance to play in Peoria then, too.
"My first stop in pro ball was Double A. This park is awesome," said Benes. "What a privilege for the guys to be able to play here."
