Future Uncertain For Taft Homes

The Peoria Housing Authority is discussing what's next for Taft Homes.
PEORIA – The future of Peoria Housing Authority’s Taft Homes is still uncertain.

Today, the housing authority’s board of commissioners discussed the possibility of relocating Taft Homes.

A consultant hired by the city of Peoria said fixing up the 216 units would be too costly.

Right now, the commissioners are discussing possible sites in Peoria where they could build public housing and how the project would be paid for.

Consultant Mary Paumen said, “If you restructure the way the projects were financed, yes, potentially there could be money to do new development which would give all the families at Taft a better place to live.”

The Peoria Housing Authority has been discussing what’s next for Taft Homes since June.

No final decisions were made in Monday’s meeting.
