Get the Snow Blower Ready to Roll

BLOOMINGTON - If you're getting ready for the winter weather to sweep through your neighborhood, you may want to dust off that snow blower.
BLOOMINGTON - If you're getting ready for the winter weather to sweep through your neighborhood, you may want to dust off that snow blower.

Home experts recommend checking your snow blower, before you begin clearing off your driveway or sidewalk.

That includes checking the oil and gas, as well as the pins on the front of the blower. If you have gas still in your machine from last winter, you may want to dump it out and start again, so your blower will run better.

For those who still rely on a shovel, experts recommend putting down ice melt and not letting snow pile up.

"A lot of times, especially with the weather they're calling for, some sleet prior to coming to the snow, it's a good idea to put some ice melt prior to going over it with your snow thrower. You're going to get a better clean away and it's going to keep from so much sticking," said Bobby Richards, manager of Lowe's in Bloomington.

Richards recommends that you check your snow blower now before you need it later on, especially since many of the stores are not open 24 hours a day.
