Governor Quinn signed legislation Thursday which will prevent anyone under 18 from using tanning beds and electronic cigarettes in Illinois. According to a release from the governor's office, the bipartisan bill regarding tanning beds is designed to respond to the increased awareness of the dangers of melanoma. According to the governor, research indicates people who begin using tanning beds at a young age have a 75 percent higher risk of developing melanoma. The new law takes effect January first of next year. Another bill would bar anyone under 18 from using electronic cigarettes and other alternative nicotine products.
