Holiday Safety: Illinois State Police on Patrol This Halloween

PEORIA - Illinois State Police are cracking down on drunk driving this week.
PEORIA - Illinois State Police are cracking down on drunk driving this week.

Authorities say behavior tends to get out of hand during the holidays, and Halloween is no exception.

As many people plan parties, and festivities Thursday night, police are warning drivers they'll be out in full force watching for traffic violations.

Those include drunk driving, seat-belt offenses, and reckless behavior.

Authorities encourage all party-goers to have a sober ride lined up after the evening is over.

But Illinois State Police say too often, the night of fright turns fatal.

During the last five years more than 1,200 people were injured in crashes on Halloween.

Twenty individuals lost their lives that night.

Illinois State Police say 35 percent of these accidents involved alcohol.

Just last year alone, four people died in Halloween traffic crashes.
