At the age of 31, Private Craig Kruse was looking for a way to advance his career in nursing. He always wanted to serve his country, so joining the army seemed like the best way to achieve his goals.
Leaving his wife and four kids at home, Craig packed up and headed to basic training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. Before he left, his family held a farewell party in his home town of Mackinaw.
His children proudly sang the star spangled banner to show how much they love him. Craig will be home to see his family at Christmas, before moving on to more training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. He will graduate boot camp in January.
Private Craig Kruse, this week's Hometown Hero.
