Homicide Victim Found in Backyard, Linked to Earlier Shooting

PEORIA - Police found the body of a shooting victim in the backyard of a vacant home.
PEORIA - Police found the body of a shooting victim in the backyard of a vacant home.
It's the city's latest homicide and the 14th of the year. Authorities discovered the body of 31-year-old Carnell Ashford around 10 a.m. Friday.
His body was located behind a home in the 1400 block of Perry Avenue. It is unclear when he was shot.
Police say a woman spotted the body while walking by the house.
The Peoria County Coroner says his body could have been in the lot for hours. Police believe Ashford's death is connected to another shooting that sent two men to the hospital shortly before 2 a.m. Friday morning.
It happened right down the street in the 1400 block of Monroe Avenue.
One man was shot in the back. Another was shot in the buttocks.
Both men were treated at a local hospital. Police say one of the men is a relative to today's homicide victim.
"I can't say that we're going to look at them as suspects, but certainly we're going to investigate this and we're not going to rule anybody in or out,” said Peoria Police Captain Mike Eddlemon. “What the involvement was earlier this morning, they were less than cooperative. So we'll have to locate as many witnesses as we can and go from there."
Police are unsure what led to the shooting.
