PEORIA - Hundreds came down to Peoria’s riverfront Sunday to celebrate fall with a German twist.

People soaked up some culture while filling up their steins on the last day of Peoria’s annual Bier Fest. The event featured traditional Bavarian food as well as performances from across the European country. Visitors could search for long lost relatives in a tent that was solely dedicated to German history.

Organizer Al Smith said they can hold such a big event because of the partnership they have with the park district, splitting the work and profits down the middle.

"They have a ton of volunteers. I have 180 people working for me just for the beer and the tickets so it's quite an endeavor," Smith said.

Next week’s riverfront lineup features the Fine Art Fair by the Peoria Art Guild.
