WMBD/WYZZ-TV - NORMAL, Ill. - Redbird Arena history will be made Wednesday night.
When No. 5 Wichita State (19-0, 6-0 in MVC) hits the floor, the Missouri Valley Conference favorite will become the highest ranked team to ever play in Illinois State's 25-year-old facility.
"It's a unique opportunity for our fans. If you're a fan of Redbird basketball for the last 25 years, this is the best team that's come to town to play," said ISU head coach Dan Muller. " So great opportunity. For the players it is a nother game. Exciting, playing a top ranked team and undefeated team."
ISU (11-7, 4-2 in MVC) has won seven straight at home and ten of its last 13 games overall. The Redbirds already have a win over a ranked opponent when it beat 25th-ranked Dayton, 81-75 on Dec. 7.
"Everyday we're making great progress and hope to have another game like Dayton," said guard Bobby Hunter. "(Wednesday) we want a lot of fans and stuff like that."
Tipoff is 7:05.
