IWU's Composition Heads to NYC

BLOOMINGTON - The work of a Bloomington professor is headed to The Big Apple.
BLOOMINGTON - The work of a Bloomington professor is headed to The Big Apple. Illinois Wesleyan Provost Jonathan Green will have one of his compositions premiere at New York City's Carnegie Hall this month.

Green says he often writes classical contemporary pieces in his spare time, and says this lyrical work is special for its wordplay, with several old-time political references.

It carries a different type of tone than listeners are used to, but green says people will remember it.

"I've combined little bits of blues and some spots, imitating different kinds of campaign songs from the 19th century, so kind of a grab bag, but are an awful lot of things in there that someone could catch themselves whistling,” said Green.

Green's piece will premiere Dec. 20 as part of the Distinguished Concerts International New York Artists series.
