Kriskindlmarkt Brings Old Country Holiday Feel to Peoria

This is the fourth year the German-American Society has put on Kriskindlmarkt.
PEORIA - The German-American Society is getting into the Christmas spirit with a very famous old world tradition.

Kriskindlmarkt is a popular street market in Germany and Austria.

It takes place during the four weeks leading up to Christmas.

The local German-American Society hosts a street market of its own, inside the Lindenhof.

They say they try to make it as realistic as possible, to give off the feeling of the old country during the holidays.

Spokesperson Jeff Pulfer said, "Christmas markets were started around church plazas over in Europe. We don't have a church here, of course, but with the music and the decorations, we've tried to make it as traditional German as possible."

You can check out this market again in a couple weeks.

The German-American Society will put on a second Kriskindlmarkt on December 14th and 15th.
