WMBD/WYZZ-TV - PEORIA, Ill - They had no idea what was coming.
When Tammy Ammerman packed her three kids in the car and drove to Peoria Saturday they didn't know who was waiting for them. On the other end was Brooklyn Nets guard and Peoria-native Shaun Livingston, who heard the family lost its home and belongings in the Nov 17 tornado.
"I really believe in helping others in a time of need," said Livingston. "God has blessed me to be able to bless others. I really want to take pride in that and help give back in my community and the city of Peoria."
Livingston, through his foundation, threw a surprise party for the Ammerman's complete with food and gifts. He gave Ammerman's three children shoes and gift cards.
"They have the tornado story," said Tammy Ammerman of her children. "And now they have all the awesome stories of good will and giving that they'll have and be able to tell for years to come."
