Local Family Distillery Honors History, Craft Whiskey

J.K. Williams Distilling opens on Friday in East Peoria.
EAST PEORIA – A central Illinois family is bringing back a piece of Peoria’s history with its new distillery business.

The J.K. Williams Distillery is located in East Peoria and it is producing corn whiskey, bourbon and other flavored spirits.

Friday, October 25 at 2 P.M. it will open to the public, providing family-friendly tours, tastings, and a dose of history.

The Williams family said it’s been a dream come true to open a craft whiskey distillery, and they’re following in the footsteps of their relatives. Co-Owner Kristin Williams said, “The tour includes learning about the history of distilling in Peoria, a little bit about our family history and we take you into the production space, actually show you how we make our whiskey and how it's different.”

Williams said they are even using an old family recipe that dates back to when Peoria was the whiskey capital of the world in the early 1900s.
