PEORIA - Two local golf courses host the 5th Annual "Tee It Up for the Troops" event, which raises money for soldiers and their families.
PEORIA - Veterans and soldiers traded in their fatigues for polos today.

More than 200 golfers “Teed It Up for Troops” at Mt. Hawley and Peoria Country Club golf courses.

This is the fifth year for the event.

The organization started in 2005 by family and friends of a soldier who enlisted after September 11th.

One of the organizers, Jeff Kolbus, says, “There was a family out of Minnesota, the dad was an avid golfer and wanted to do something for his son who was serving overseas. The kid said, ‘we got enough. They send us so much stuff. Take care of the guys that are coming back home.’”

The group hoped to raise one million dollars for troops; so far they’ve reached almost $800,000. You can donate to “Tee It Up for Troops” anytime by going to their website, www.teeitupforthetroopsil.org.
