Local unemployment numbers released Thursday show both Peoria and Bloomington Normal have lost jobs since last October, compared to this October. In Bloomington Normal the unemployment rate is 6.9 percent which is up from 6.6 percent in September and up slightly compared to October a year ago. Also 1200 jobs were lost in the over the year change while Peoria lost 4100 jobs over the year change from October 2012 to October 2013. The jobless rate in Peoria was 8.7 percent which is up slightly from September and up considerably from last October when the local jobless rate was 7.6 percent. Peoria saw one of the largest increases in unemployment in the state.
