PEORIA - Dozens of people hit the streets with gloves and garbage bags in hand.
Their mission is to make the River City brighter.
The event called, "Pick up Peoria" took place Saturday afternoon.
It's comprised of teams including a group of Bradley University College Students.
The goal is to collect the most trash, which each accomplished.
Organizer Emily Streeter says 224 pounds of garbage is now off the streets.
"We kind of took that and ran with it to make this area really clean,” said Streeter. “Worked on cleaning this area in particular and we hope it will help spread the word to other people to keep the city clean.”
The winning team collected nearly 50 pounds of trash.
Organizers hope the cleaning plan inspires others to make a difference in their neighborhoods throughout the year.
