PEORIA - One man is in custody after Peoria police say he tried to abduct a young girl.

The situation occurred just before noon Friday in the area of Marquette and Griswold Street.
Police say the man approached the teen and attempted to lure her into a vehicle. The girl refused, and a relative picked her up.

Police tracked the suspect to the Bloomington area and arrested 65-year-old Reggie Hankins, who is being held at the Peoria County Jail. He was booked Saturday at 7:15 a.m.

He was arrested on the charges of attempted child abduction, violation of the Illinois Sex Offender Registration Act, and disorderly conduct. His bond has not yet been set. Hankins is expected to appear before a judge Monday.
