PEORIA - A man is in custody in connection with the murder of a Peoria nightclub owner.
Wednesday, Peoria Police arrested 29 -year-old Bryan Stewart. He is booked into the peoria county jail on murder and aggravated arson charges.
His arrest is for the slaying of Todd Scholl, 47.
Scholl, who owned Peoria nightclubs, Berlin and Diesel, was found dead in an apartment set on fire in the 100 block of Perry Avenue on October 2.
An autopsy revealed he was stabbed to death before the fire. Police say Stewart admitted to killing Scholl and setting his body and the apartment on fire.
Authorities believe Stewart is the person of interest caught on surveillance video leaving the apartment complex the night of the fire.
“We had video pictures that we shared with Mr. Stewart and Mr. Scholl about thirty minutes before the fire was reported,” said Cpt. Mike Eddlemon of the Peoria Police Department. “Which is why we wanted to speak with him, and we have other physical evidence. And obviously Mr. Stewart's statements which I obviously can't get into the specifics of his statements."
There is no word on a motive or Stewart's relation to Scholl. Police believe he acted alone.
