The five dogs spent the afternoon with the children.
Kids and adults are welcome to come pet and spend time with the dogs in hopes they will experience some normalcy, if only for a moment.
This is the third day the dogs have been out spending time with Washington citizens.
The kids enjoy petting the dogs and talking to them.
“There is a lot of transition for families in this area, and the dogs are kind of the stabilizing force for them, we've been available the last few days and what we are finding is the kids are coming in and they just kind of like telling us their stories,” said Kitty Yanko, of the Peoria Humane Society.
These dogs also make regular visits to area hospitals, schools, and other health care facilities.
