Movie Theaters Again A Popular Christmas Day Destination

BLOOMINGTON - Most businesses were closed Wednesday to observe the Christmas holiday, but movie theaters are the exception year after year.

The Galaxie Fourteen in Bloomington was fully staffed, with all 42 people on its payroll chipping in hours on one of its busiest days of the year.

Before the doors unlocked at 1 p.m., people were waiting outside, eager to take part in their holiday tradition.

Movie goers say this is a great time for family to spend together.

"It's just relaxing. It's a family thing. We all come, we pick a movie to watch and hang out. It's just something that we look forward to every year and just what're going to be the new releases that we can enjoy as a family,” said Doug Butler.

Theater staff members say working on Christmas is something they knew was coming when they signed up, and their manager says it helps that they all like interacting with people.
