New Car Seat Rule Combines Weight for 2014

New rule regarding latch system
PEORIA - Buckle up right in 2014 because new rules for parents could change the way they use the car seat.

It deals with the latch system with the lower anchor portion of the system.   Experts aren't just looking at the weight of the child anymore. The combined weight of the child and the car seat cannot be more than 65 pounds. The latch system has been tested and proved unreliable to work properly with a heavier load.

"Usually it would say between 40 to 48 pounds you did not want to exceed, but now they're combining the weight of the child and the car seat," Kathy Youngman, who works in advocacy at the Children’s Hospital of Illinois.
