New Leadership Takes Over Friendship House

She's coming from California, but has a special tie to Peoria.
PEORIA - Melanie McNiff is the new President and CEO of the Peoria Friendship House.

Wednesday was her third day on the job. She comes from the San Diego area where she worked at a ranch for men in recovery. But this job is a kind of homecoming for McNiff. She said she actually grew up in the Peoria area and is excited for her new role.

"There's a lot of heart, there's a lot of skills that are involved in the staff that's here. But also, the community, I'm overwhelmed a little bit by how many people are eager to take part in helping," McNiff said.

McNiff said she'll spend the first few weeks figuring out what the community needs most. Then she'll work to put her skills to the test.
