PEORIA - In the light of the lax shooting Friday, Peoria International Airport says it takes every precaution to keep passengers safe.
Airport authorities say there is always the possibility of a threat.  Armed officers patrol the airport at all times. Airport Director Gene Olson says training is given to staff in case of similar emergencies. Only law enforcement on official duty are allowed to carry a firearm past security.
Friday, traveler's at LAX evacuated to various sections of the airport, including the tarmac.
Peoria officials say it all depends on the situation.
"When something happens, you want to get people away from the threat as quickly as possible,” said Olson. “So whether the threat is a person with a gun or the building catches fire, we want make sure people are safe. And you know if safest place is on the apron, then that's where we'll put people."
Friday, the airport is rolling out a new expedited screening process. Background checks already take place for every traveler.
But under new process, TSA agents select "low-risk" travelers to skip long lines and certain clothing requirements at security checkpoints.
