NORMAL - The town of Normal could be looking to make a deal with a local university.

Normal and Illinois State University are considering exchanging land, so the town can start the process of revamping its fire station system.

City officials say the stations are becoming outdated, and they'd like to get all of them updated or relocated over the next ten years.

The proposed swap could give ISU more property near its sports complexes and help out the city.

“So, our thought is why not just find new locations for those and relocate them so they're strategically more advantageous and provide us with a quicker response time in some of the areas where we need it."

Peterson says the city hopes to have a more defined swap plan in place by early next year. The two have made trades in the past.
