NWCHS Receives Symbol of Freedom

NORMAL - Normal West High School now has a reminder of freedom hanging in their school.
NORMAL - Normal West High School now has a reminder of freedom hanging in their school.

The family of 2012 graduate Sal Garza presented Normal West Principal Dave Johnson with a flag that was flown during "Operation Enduring Freedom" in Afghanistan.

Johnson says he's pleased to receive something that symbolizes a steadfast witness to freedom.

Garza's family says this is Sal's way of thanking the school and a way to remember those serving overseas.

"Just seeing it hanging on the wall and showing that it says my brother's name is permanently here, it's a good thought,” said PFC Raymond Garza of the United States Marine Corps.

Garza was unable to attend Monday's ceremony, because he is still deployed in Japan.
