OSF Healthcare Manger Tradition

PEORIA - The Sisters of the Order of Saint Francis are preparing to put baby Jesus in the manger tonight.

PEORIA - The Sisters of the Order of Saint Francis are preparing to put baby Jesus in the manger tonight.

OSF Healthcare has had this tradition for more than 80 years.

Baby Jesus will be placed in the manger at 8:30 tonight in the OSF chapel.

Placing Jesus in the manger symbolized that he has been born.

The sisters say that this is an important and significant tradition.

“It always brings back special memories from past Christmases and everything. It just makes it Christmas when baby is there, Christ has come, it is Christmas,” said Sister Rose Therese.

Jesus will also be placed in other nativity scenes throughout the hospital tonight.
