WMBD/WYZZ-TV - WASHINGTON, Ill. - The Washington basketball team is ready to start the season.
And to move on from the tornado which ripped through its town last Sunday damaging roughly 1,000 homes. Eight days after the storm, Washington will host the Coventry Health Tournament of Champions on the high school campus.
"Kinda coming back from something that tears down the community," said senior forward Connor Schone. "You want to build it back. You can't help it but sports is really a way to help the community through things."
Washington opens the season against o'Fallon at 7 p.m. Tuesday. The tourament runs through Saturday.
