Pekin Celebrates "Night Out Against Crime"

Pekin Police are encouraging residents to participate in the annual "Night Out Against Crime" event.
PEKIN – The Pekin police are offering free food, fun and entertainment at the Avanti’s Dome Thursday night. It’s the 11th annual “Night Out Against Crime” event.

Spokesman Mike Eeten said it is offering all kinds of family activities. There will be a rock climbing wall, face painting, balloon art and several police vehicles that the public can get an up-close look at.

Eeten said the focus of the event is safety and security, and it also encourages a partnership between law enforcement and residents. “Our goal is that the kids and even people in the community can come out and see that police officers are friendly and that we can do fun things with them. We want them to kind of get up close and personal with us and be able to see that we're really here to help them.”

The event runs from 5:30 P.M. until 7:30 P.M.
