Peoria Man Dead After Christmas Eve Shooting

Police looking for leads.
PEORIA - One man is dead following an early morning shooting Tuesday on Peoria's north side.

According to Captain Mike Scally from the Peoria Police Department, officers responded to the Pinecrest Apartment Complex in the 800 Plock of Pine Hill Lane just after 3:30 a.m.

"They entered the apartment they did find a man down who had been shot in the apartment. They needed medical aid. He was transported to the hospital where he later died," Scally said.

Police noted that the door had been forced open. The victim was 29-year-old man Sonny Ford. He was spending the night at that Pinecrest apartment and wasn't there alone.

"There was an adult female and two young children under 5-years-old all three of those were unharmed," Scally said.

He said what that female heard is helping police figuring out how many suspects to go after.

"He had entered the apartment shortly after he entered at least two other people entered the apartment and then she heard the shots fired."

Police say they have very little information at this point. If you have any information regarding this investigation, call the Peoria Police Dept at 673-4521, or Crimestoppers at 673-9000.
