Peoria Night Club Owner Found Stabbed to Death

Police are investigating a stabbing and possible arson of a downtown club owner
PEORIA - A Peoria business owner was found stabbed to death after the city’s police and fire responded to apartment fire Wednesday night, the Peoria County Coroner confirms.

Police and fire are investigating it as a homicide and possible arson.

Peoria police and fire responded to a call of smoke coming from an apartment building on North East Perry Avenue around 11:30 Wednesday night.

“Officers responded and evacuated residents that were upstairs and Mr. Scholl was found on the first floor deceased after the fire was knocked out,” said Cpt. Mike Eddlemon from the Peoria Police Department.

Todd Scholl, 47, was the owner Main Street night clubs, Diesel and Berlin. The clubs are right around the corner from the apartment building where Scholl was found dead. Police said he was renting out that space for storage.

“We have had complaints on the bar and I think there have been some investigations,” Eddlemon said, but  went on to say they aren't sure if the clubs are related or relevant to the incident.

“There's a lot of cameras downtown and we've spoken to some people that were in the area or may have some knowledge and we're trying to make contact with others.”

Eddlemon said after reviewing security footage, police now have a person of interest.
