WMBD/WYZZ-TV - PEORIA, Ill. - Bring on the Big 12, that's what schools in Peoria are saying.
"I think it's a real good spot for us overall," said Peoria High head coach Tim Thorton. "The travel will be nice, the scheduling nice and, like I said, it's good matchups."
Peoria High, Richwoods, Manual and Notre Dame are set to merge the Mid-State 6 conference with the Big 12 next year The schools in the Big 12 are Champaign Central, Centennial, Urbana, Danville, Normal West, Normal Community and Bloomington.
"I think you have a great natural rivalry to build with Normal Community, West and Bloomington schools, for sure," said Richwoods football coach Roland Brown. "Then the other schools pulled in there. You have the natural rivalry with the closeness of the schools. I think you will have great crowds. I think the whole thing will be good."
Mid-State 6 football schools will play one more year outside of the Big 12 and are hoping to start playing league games in 2015. Many of the other athletic teams will beginning competing for Big 12 titles next fall.
