Preventing Holiday Crime

How thieves are targeting your car.
PEORIA - For many people, holiday shopping is stressful enough, but if suddenly all of the gifts you've bought are gone you'll probably feel it even more.

State Trooper Dustin Pierce said during this time of year thieves are looking for crimes of opportunity. That means they're trying for easy steals, like Christmas presents in your car. He said thieves will watch unattended vehicles and break windows if the gifts are in plain view.

"Make certain that your car's locked up. A lot of times we see thieves that will just go around, checking the doors of cars, finding a lot of them that are not locked. They'll go right on in," Pierce said.

To avoid this hassle he recommends always hiding presents in the trunk.
