PEORIA - Progress on renovations for University St. and Main St. in Peoria took center stage at the city council meeting Tuesday night.
Peoria Public Works would like to move forward on the project as soon as possible.
Tuesday, Mike Rogers, public works director, presented several options to city council members. Many of the ideas came from a recent public forum.
Public Works could raise the intersection several inches to be more wheelchair compliant. Other ideas include four way stops and traffic enforcement.
Peoria Public Works Director Mike Rogers says pedestrian safety is one of the top priorities.
“One of the main things we heard throughout the evening is that whatever option is that it becomes a preferred alternative and actually gets built, we cannot increase the level of traffic whatsoever in the neighborhoods,” Rogers said.
Council did not take any vote on the intersection Tuesday. There's no timetable yet on a final plan.
