Quinn Announces Project to Rehab Rental Units

Check out which units in Peoria are receiving help...
PEORIA - A new state project announced Saturday is working to create affordable living for elderly residents and those with special needs in Peoria.

It's called the "Preservation Now" program, which works to fix rental units at a price people's wallets can handle. Leaders say it's more important than ever to maintain affordable rental homes for all people no matter the challenge.

The Illinois Housing Development Authority will provide $30-million in low interest loans to rehabilitate nearly 500 units in four developments in the river city. They include Parkview Estates, Reservoir Estates, Hurlburt House and the Schalrman House.

Work is expected to be finished next fall.
