BLOOMINGTON - Some hometown heroes took the morning off to help the Salvation Army of McLean County with its final holiday push.
BLOOMINGTON - Some hometown heroes took the morning off to help the Salvation Army of McLean County with its final holiday push.

Bloomington firefighters took part in their annual bell-ringing tradition in front of businesses along Veterans Parkway in the Twin Cities.

Right now, the Salvation Army is about three-quarters of the way funded in its Red Kettle Campaign, with just four days remaining.

Firefighters say they're glad to lend a hand.

"We're in a service-oriented job, we like helping people obviously with what we do and just getting out and doing anything we can do to help with the community with that final push, right before Christmas, it's just a really good feeling,” said Clayton Matteson, a seventh year firefighter.

The Salvation Army is still looking for more bell ringers through Christmas Eve. If you'd like to get involved, click here.
