Salvation Army Toy Shop

Salvation Army hosts Toy Shop for parents
By: Donnie Tillman

PEORIA - 3,500 children throughout Central Illinois will not go without a gift this holiday season.

Wednesday morning, the Salvation Army helped local parents select presents for their kids.

U.S. Marine Corps Reserves and many volunteers were also on hand to help adults shop for toys.

The annual toy shop is funded by donations made to the tree of lights campaign.

Toys will be handed out to around 1,800 families.

"Each family recieves a family game and or a puzzle, two gifts per child.  And, there  are some freebies at the end of the line that they can recieve, books and things of that nature." says Major David Gorton.

The tree of lights campaign hopes to raise 1.6 million dollars this year.

Contributions can be mailed to P.O. Box 1468 Peoria, IL 61655 or by phone at 309-655-7220 on your VISA, American Express, MasterCard or Discover Card, or online at www.saheartland.org
