Schock Hands Out Medals of Recognition

Schock Hands Out Medals of Recognition
PEORIA - Congressman Aaron Schock made a stop at his office in Peoria Monday for a special ceremony.

Schock presented Benny Percy, a retired veteran, with four medals of recognition.

Percy served four years of active duty in the Air Force.

He says he's enjoyed retirement for some time, but now he says he wants to return to active government work.

Receiving the humanitarian award allows him to apply for special positions.

He says, "the Humanitarian Service Medal, this one right here qualifies you for that higher veteran status, which would give me a better opportunity at some of the jobs I was interested in."

After active duty, Percy went on to work for the Monmouth Police Department and then the Illinois State Police before retiring after 27 years on the force.
