CREVE COEUR - Illinois Senator Dick Durbin was in Central Illinois Thursday and weighed in on the Syria conflict and the possibility of U.S. action.

Durbin said even though he voted against the Iraq war, he believes the civilized community needs to draw a line against the use of chemical weapons. The senator said he thinks the U.S. should use its military to intervene. He voted for a limited 60 to 90 day operation to stop Bahsar al-Assad.

"I didn't do it with a great deal of enthusiasm because I don't jump at military responses to these things, but there's no other country on earth that's willing to stand up to this barbaric dictator,” Durbin said.

Durbin said if the U.S. doesn't make it clear that Syria will pay a heavy price, Bashar al-Assad will use chemical weapons again.
