WASHINGTON - A Texas-based organization is helping those in Washington who may be shoeless following the storm.

San Antonio Shoemakers brought 3,000 pairs of shoes to area-residents affected by the tornado.

The shoes were delivered at First Baptist Church on Peoria Street starting early this morning.

Some unexpecting recipients were thankful for the footwear.

“There’s a lot of people that have been givers all their lives and now we’re on the receiving end and the word that they so often use is, it’s humbling,” said Ray Vanderburg.

“We used most of our money to help out the relief fund, so I just think it’s so exciting to get these beautiful shoes,” said Carole Vanderburg.

San Antonio shoemakers delivered their product on a “first come, first serve” basis.
