IMMEDIATE RELEASE 11/19/13
DET. MIKE EETEN 309-613-0552

The city of Pekin continues to clean up and open streets where we can. Ameren has line trucks working day and night to restore power to the area. Most of our North side residents are still without power. We are hoping to have power restored in parts of the city within the next couple of days. Tree Crews are working to remove fallen trees that are in the way of the Utility crews.

The Pekin Fire Department as well as the city inspectors continue to evaluate the structures still standing for safety. The Pekin Police Department continues to have a curfew in place from 9pm to 6am for areas north or Sheridan to Velde Dr. Pekin Police also continue to have heavy dedicated patrols in the areas damaged by the storms.

The Pekin Township building located downtown will continue to serve hot meals each day. The Salvation Army has been on scene handing out water and food supplies. The Red Cross has been in place with meals, and assistance for those needing shelter.

There have been over 150 homes damaged in Pekin, and 48 are uninhabitable. There have been no major reports of injuries, and no loss of life.
Pekin Police as well as the Pekin Fire Department continues to operate a 24 hour Command post close to the damage area. If you have any questions, please contact PIO Mike Eeten at 309-613-0552.
