Special Olympics Athletes Bowl for Trip to State

PEORIA - All gold medalists from Saturday's Sectional Tournament move on to the State Tournament.
PEORIA - Special Olympic athletes from across the area were bowling Saturday for a chance to represent Central Illinois in the State tournament.

Over 200 athletes from 37 agencies and three areas were at Landmark Lanes for the Illinois Sectional Bowling Tournament.

Gold medalists from each area tournament had a chance to compete.

And those who receive the gold Saturday will then move on to the state tournament.

Andrew Bellinger, who is bowling in the tournament, gave out his strategy.

"By throwing the bowling ball at the middle arrow and going for the strikes," he said.

"Some of our athletes that have more physical disabilities may struggle with being able to throw the ball on their own," added Area 6 Director Jill Speer. "Bowling is appealing, because everyone has the ability to do it."

The State tournament will also be held at Landmark Lanes on December 7th.
