Students Embrace Outdoor Activities

PEORIA - Instead of going home to video games or a television screen, Tuesday Peoria students took the time to play outside for the annual “Lights on After School.”

It's a national initiative to celebrate after-school activities. Three organizations in Peoria work together to host it each year; his year the YMCA of Greater Peoria hosted the outdoor games. Kids also received a free dinner.

"We just felt the kids could benefit from you know, just being together and just having fun because a lot of times, you know, the kids spend so much time on a regimented schedule, inside school, we just really wanted to have them come out and just be a little kid again for two hours," said Paul Larson from the YMCA.

The event partners with area Teen REACH programs, which promote responsibility, education, achievement, caring and hope.
