TAZEWELL COUNTY - One Tazewell County grade school is taking action for kids safety. Delavan Grade School is taking part in “Safe Kids Peoria Area.” The local
coalition led by Children’s Hospital of Illinois and the American Red Cross aims to prevent unintentional injury through various activities. As part of International Walk to School Day, school kids learn about pedestrian safety as they head to class. Officials say students and motorists have to be alert around one another.

Delavan Assistant Police Chief says “Everybody is always in a hurry nowadays.  We're trying to get people to slow down and take a look and make sure the kids aren't out in the street and make sure the kids are watching for the cars.  It's a joint operation; they each have to watch for each other.”

Delavan grade school is also the recipient of the environmental task force grant this year. The money helped make the school parking lot safer for kids to walk to school.
